KTM SMC R 690 FAQs

It’s been a while since KTM offered a supermoto motorcycle, so we are REALLY EXCITED to see the 2019 KTM 690 SMC R

We’ve had lots of people ask us about this bike, so we’ve put this here to help answer the most common questions:

The single-cylinder LC4 engine has been revised and now features twin-spark ignition, with different mappings for each plug. At 67hp, peak power remains the same but KTM claim this makes the SMC R 8-10% more efficient than the old model.

It is now fitted with a ride-by-wire system too, giving you the option of four different fuel maps. You get Standard, Sport, Comfort and a ‘Bad Fuel’ mode.

Here are the top 6 questions we get asked at our Shepherds Bush Showroom:

1.What type of engine does the KTM SMC R 690 have?

The KTM SMC R 690 has a LC4 engine that can provide good performance for high miles and makes the ride a lot smoother for the rider.

2. Can I have a quick shifter fitted on a KTM SMC R 690?

No need to fit a quick shifter as the bike has one already fitted and the quick shifter has an auto blip which means you can change gears up and down without the clutch.

3. What type of suspension does the KTM SMC R 690 have?

The KTM SMC R 690 has the WP suspension which is good for soaking up the rough road surfaces and the track.

4. Does the KTM SMC R 690 have any performance features?

Yes, it does and that is the MTC (Motorcycle Traction Control). This has anti-wheelie, cornering ABS and these are bot safety nets and performance enhancing.

5. Does the KTM SMC R 690 provide different modes?
