Top warning signs that your scooter or motorbike needs a repair service

Scooters or Motorbikes are a great and efficient way to travel, especially in London, but how do you know when your vehicle needs a repair service?

Top warning signs that your scooter or motorbike needs a repair service.

You will usually need an interim service if you notice any changes in or the deterioration of any aspect of your scooter. Your scooter should always have a detailed fault history checked by professional service mechanics to ensure your scooter is safe to ride.

So, what signs should you look out for?

Scooter & Bike Repair

Brake Pads/ Brake Fluid

One of the essential parts of your scooter, the brake pads, can be the ‘make-or-break factor in preventing a severe accident. Your brakes need to work effectively when pressing the brake pedal to ensure that when you use them, they slow or halt your vehicle when needed. If you find that your brakes aren’t responding as quickly as usual, or are making you break too sharply,  then it may be time to get a full-service history check by a professional to prevent future accidents.

Lights/ Dashboard warning lights

Your lights are used to increase your visibility on the roads during darker periods of the day and indicate to other drivers the direction of your travel or that you’re slowing down. Signs that your lights might need servicing include weakening of the light intensity, slower reaction rates when braking and indicating, or signs of the light not working completely. These signs can be dangerous if left alone, so ensure you frequently check that they’re working as they should be.

While on the topic of lights, your bike will have a set of dashboard warning lights. This means that your scooter will often detect an issue by flashing/showing up an image on your dash, which should always be addressed and usually indicates the need for a full service.

Leaking Fluid

If you notice your scooter leaking fluid, it’s probably time for a significant service. Depending on the type of oil leak, it could be anything from engine oil and power steering fluid to the coolant. If you’re unsure what kind of fluid it is, take a look at your dashboard warning light, or take it to a mechanic, and they’ll be able to tell you.

Sometimes, a leak is not severe and can be fixed with a simple sealant. However, if the leak comes from the engine, a more serious problem will likely require a reset fork oil replacement or something else. Of course, it’s always best to be on the side and get your scooter serviced as soon as possible to avoid further damage.

Wheel-wearing/ Tyre Pressure

Tyres are essential to any Scooter, and the quality determines whether your scooter is in road-worthy condition. One way to tell if a tyre needs to be replaced is by checking the tread. Tread is the raised portion of the tire that comes into contact with the road. Over time, it can become worn down, eventually leading to bald spots. In general, it is recommended that tires be replaced when the tread depth reaches 4/32 of an inch. At this point, the tyres will no longer provide adequate traction, which can increase the risk of accidents. Therefore, it is essential to get your tyre tread depth checked regularly.

Maybe its time

Mopeds are great, but like any other vehicle, they require regular maintenance to stay in good condition and keep running smoothly throughout the years.
