EICMA 2022: What Are The New Motorcycles For 2023?

Central Bikes recently had the opportunity to visit EICMA 2022, the most important international event dedicated to two and three-wheeled motorbikes.
9 November 2022
Central bikes presents, EICMA 2022. We cover Piaggio, Vespa, Moto Guzzi, Mutt Motorcycles, Royal Enfield and Super Soco.

Central Bikes at EICMA 2022

The EICMA event was between November 8th and 13th, 2022, and included many major brands related to the moto world. These included brands such as Piaggio, Vespa, Motor Guzzi, Mutt Motorcycle, Royal, Endfiled, and Super Soco.

As suppliers of these motorcycles, we were excited to see them at the EICMA exhibition to see which motorcycles they have in the making for 2023. And to our delight, it looks great. Here’s a brief overview of the motorcycle world’s future:

Piaggio

The event is held in Milan, Italy, making The Piaggio Group a major representative at EICMA 2022. At their exhibition, they had many exciting motorcycles in the making from their Piaggio, Vespa, and Moto Guzzi range.

The first that caught our attention was the Piaggio 1 MY23, a two-wheel e-scooter with a limited speed of 37mph and a 60-mile range. We liked this scooter as it fits the modern-day city transport climate and is perfect for our London-based motorcycle shop.

Including this, we saw the Piaggio MP3 with airbags. At the moment, this is only a concept. However, it’s a three-wheeled scooter with an airbag system located in the footwell, which is yet to get explored in the motorcycle industry.

Vespa

The Piaggio Group also showcased some of their new Vespa’s. These included the following four options:

  • Vespa GTS – Includes the standard technical contents in a 125 and a 300 Hpe engine, with even more technologically advanced additions to limit consumption and emissions.
  • Vespa GTV – The second generation of the GTV, with a 278cc single-cylinder engine that can produce 23.8 bhp, has keyless ignition, and a digital LCD display.
  • Vespa Primavera Color Vibe – A collection of two-tone Vespa’s with excellent colourways and the usual perfect riding ability.
  • Vespa 946 10° Anniversario – The most unique of all, Vespa celebrates its tenth anniversary with a startling livery and refined detailing.

It wasn’t a thought that Vespa wouldn’t deliver greatness in 2023. And with the four options above, we can confirm this.

Moto Guzzi

Including the above, The Piaggio Group also shared their new Moto Guzzi ranges for 2023. There were five options, including:

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello 2023

The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is the first motorcycle in the world to provide an unprecedented level of comfort with its advanced adaptive aerodynamics. As you ride, deflectors on the bike adjust their position depending on speed and selected Riding Mode, resulting in reduced air pressure felt by the rider.

You can also easily customise your riding experience with an adjustable windshield controlled via buttons on the handlebar – giving you a potential reduction in air pressure of up to 22%. The design of this model is absolutely stunning – showcasing compact body proportions and sporty details, like gold-coloured wheels.

The sculpted fuel tank exudes a classic Moto Guzzi essence, including tank slits that pay homage to traditional models. The engine completes the look, creating a sleek and elegant overall effect. The Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello will be available in two flavours, Bianco Polare and Rosso Magma colour schemes.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello S

Available in the iconic Verde 2121 colour version and in the sporty Grigio Avanguardia. The V100 Mandello S marks an exciting milestone in Moto Guzzi’s history, introducing ground-breaking technological advancements such as the first adaptive aerodynamics motorcycle, a six-axis inertial platform and cornering ABS.

It’s also the first Moto Guzzi to be equipped with a ‘compact block’ engine. Despite its modern features, tradition remains intact through its classic 90° transverse V twin architecture that offers unparalleled torque delivery and signature Moto Guzzi sound.

V9 Bobber Special Edition 2023

The V9 Bobber Special Edition is a powerhouse, generating 65 horsepower from its 853cc Guzzi 90-degree twin engine. Its heavyweight frame has a 57.7-inch wheelbase, but still manages a dry weight of 194 kg.

The chassis sports a double-cradle steel frame with adjustable rear shocks and a 40mm telefork up front for more control on the road. With 26.4 degrees rake and 4.6 inches trail, you can trust that it will provide an effortless ride while the 31-inch seat height makes manoeuvring simple and comfortable.

The two-tone grey/black drop tank adds to the stunning matte black finish seen in all components such as the exhaust pipes and large megaphone silencer that make this bike truly special edition worthy!

V7 Stone Special Edition 2023

The V7 Stone Special Edition is Moto Guzzi’s latest iteration of the venerable V7 generation, designed to embody the best of its daring and uncompromising sporting heritage. With an Arrow exhaust, Café Racer-style mirrors, a red shock absorber and a striking shiny black finish, this bike stands as a testament to Moto Guzzi’s passion for excellence.

Additionally, it features bold red shock absorber springs and unique saddle stitching that further accentuates its aggressive yet stylish look. To top it off, the handlebar riser includes an exclusive Special Edition badge – signifying the ultimate expression of Moto Guzzi’s dedication to excellence.

Each of these follows the classic Moto Guzzi, roadster-style appearance, perfect for commuting in cities like London.

Special motorcycle considerations in 2023

The Piaggio Group has some special things planned for 2023, which has undoubtedly excited us. However, there are three special considerations that we still need to mention.

Though the Piaggio group had a lot to show, three other new motorcycles for 2023 caught our attention. These are:

Mutt Motorcycle Mutt DRK 125/250

The DRK-01 range will arrive in the spring of 2023 as either a liquid-cooled 125 or 250 option. Both bikes have DOHC single-cylinder motors and a six-speed gearbox. The 125cc has a peak power of 13.4bhp at 9500rpm, with torque claimed to be 7.7 lb-ft at 7500rpm.

To bring them to a stop they both have twin-piston front callipers. The 125/250 have CNC machined LED headlights, plus a single, part-analogue clock completes the look.

Royal Enfield New Super Meteor 65

The engine is the same as the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 oil/air-cooled, 648cc parallel twin motor, which makes it A2-licence-compatible due to its 47bhp at 7250rpm and 52.3Nm of torque at 5650rpm.

The 2023 Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 engine has modest performance goals and the use of electronic fuel injection to be Euro 5 compliant. There are four valves per cylinder despite the SOHC, with a six-speed transmission which is surprisingly new tech for Royal Enfield.

Super Soco VMoto ‘ON-R’ & ‘OFF-R’

Vmoto unveiled their first dirt bike weighing in at just 84kg. ON-R comes with road tyres and OFF-R is equipped with knobbly off-road tyres. The Super Soco ON-R/OFF-R can be set up as an L1 or L3 configuration, L1 is comparable to a 50cc machine and L3 is a 125cc setup.

The L3 can reach speeds topping 50mph, while the L1 configuration limits the top end to around 30mph. You are looking at about 90 miles with a recharge time of 2 hours for the L1 and 3 hours for the speedier L3. The 8kW power plant is housed in a die-cast aluminium frame producing a claimed 190 ft/lb of instant torque. No retail price has been provided.

Each of the above comes with updated features that’ll complement any motorcyclist looking for their new 2023 motorcycle.
